ITINERARY

Day 1:

Arrival at the airport or bus station and transfer to the office of Monte Amazonico Lodge and your Tour Operator Carlos Expeditions for our final tour briefing before departing on our adventure. In case you have a lot of luggage, we suggest you repack to keep the items you don’t need and take enough for the trip.

Land transfer (4X4) by wheeled van to our destination for about 2 hours to get to the banks of the Tambopata River, if it is by river it will take more than 6 hours (information only). In this place we will take a boat to the lodge «Monte Amazonico – Tambopata». Welcome and breakfast or lunch depending on the time of arrival.

In the afternoon we will take an introductory walk to the rainforest where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among others.

Day 2:

We wake up very early, at 4:30 am, to embark on an incredible boat trip to the largest macaw clay lick in the world «EL CHUNCHO», a trip of approximately 1:30 hours by boat, on the way we will have the opportunity to see some species such as capybaras, which is the largest rodent in the world, tapirs, and you can even see the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar, many of our clients are witnesses with photographic evidence of encounters with these beautiful mammals.

After arrival at the macaw clay lick, you will see hundreds of parrots of different species (11) come to eat clay adjacent to the river on the wall. We will settle into our chairs to wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural bird shows in the world. The parrots are followed by 3 species of the most colorful macaws in America, red and green, blue and yellow come to gather to eat the clay needed in their daily diet and eliminate toxins. On a good day of activity you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying overhead. An experience of a lifetime

Return to our lodge, breakfast and rest time.

-Then we will walk through the botanical garden where you can observe some fruit, timber and medicinal species of our area, accompanied by our guide. Lunch

In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to kayak on the Tambopata River where we will move silently along the river, so we will have more opportunity to observe the largest animals of the Tambopata Reserve.

For the night free to rest or possibility of another night walk.

Day 3:

After a hearty breakfast, our boat takes us to transport us back to Puerto Maldonado and we will transfer to the port where we will take the boat for an hour until we arrive at our welcome lodge with a refreshing fruit juice from our region. Accommodation is provided. After a rest, you will have a two-hour walk in the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert who will take you through our trails and you will see a variety of trees that can be over five hundred years old, so you can observe some species of wild animals such as toucans, oropendolas, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc. You will have the opportunity to experience the magic of our Amazon rainforest inside the TAMBOPATA NATIONAL WILDLIFE RESERVE (278,000 hectares protected). After lunch, we visit the «Monkey Island», located in front of our lodge on the other side of the Madre de Dios River, where we find different species of monkeys that live on the island, those species are the brown capuchin, the squirrel monkey and the saddleback tamarin; and return to the Lodge. In the afternoon we will go to look for caimans, the white caimans are typically found on the sandbanks in the Madre de Dios River for which it will be necessary to bring a flashlight. Also, we may see some capybaras, back to the lodge, dinner and rest.

Day 4:

After breakfast hike of 3 km. In the middle of the dense rainforest and head to Sandoval Lake (piranha habitat) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and ride in a rowboat where we will appreciate many birds of different species (shansho, cormorants, jacanas, puma heron, vultures, howler monkey, brown capuchin monkey, tamarins and sloths). We may meet the endangered family of giant river otters (almost two meters long) and return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch. In the afternoon we will have one more opportunity to walk where we will be able to appreciate a diversity of species of insects, amphibians, reptiles and other nocturnal animals. – Dinner and rest.

Day 5:

5:30 a.m. in the morning jungle and a short walk to our canopy walkway, about 30 meters high, allowing us to appreciate nature from as high as possible, we will also have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From the platforms observe different species of birds, including toucans, macaws, tanagers, oropendolas, it is sure to be a wonderful experience.

Breakfast and return to the city, transfer to the airport and/or bus station.

The prices indicated are per person in US dollars. The entrance fee contributes directly to the maintenance of the Tambopata National Reserve by the Peruvian Government.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Cancellations made 31 days or more prior to departure date will be refunded less a 25% administrative fee and cancellations within 30 days prior to departure date will be billed at the full rate. These cancellations will be considered a no show.
